By-the-Sea ~ February & March
For generations, the deep of winter has been a time to gather in community around the hearth, safe from the cold winter winds outside, to turn our energies to handwork projects and preparing for the warm season to come. Connect to the rhythms of the natural world, even indoors!
Join us for all ten weeks this winter as we await our return to the forest in late April, or choose either of the 5-week sessions.
Along with our ocean friends in the touch tank, we will get to know and perhaps see some other animals who live by the river through the winter. As a community of children and adults, our mornings will center around Waldorf-inspired richly evocative seasonal stories, guided imaginative play, meaningful craft projects, and of course exploratory playtime with peers.
Class size is limited to 10 students. Youth participate at their own pace, and we find it is equally successful for our very youngest friends ages 2 to 3, who tend to focus more on the exploratory play, as for older children, nearing age 5, who are more engaged in the day's story and lesson. While each class has a consistent structure and pace, we are intentionally casual and encourage kids to follow their curiosity and proceed at their own style.

Forest Tots (Fall & Spring)
In April we will celebrate the outdoors with our youngest friends! We'll meet for five mornings at Four Rock, our field site on Boston Road in Newbury. We'll gather to greet the morning, share a story and then set off on a nature walk at a slow and curious pace. We'll witness the beauty of the forest in spring, and make sure there is ample time for play and creative arts. This is not a drop-off class and children must attend with a caregiver who shares their love of the outdoors.
The morning is a great way to build an early connection to nature in the company of like-minded families. While each class has a consistent structure and pace, we are intentionally casual and encourage kids to follow their curiosity and proceed at their own style. Class size is limited to 10 youth. (Infant and toddler siblings welcome at no additional cost.)

Ages: Youth 2-4 (or just turned 5) welcome.

Dress: We will meet rain or shine in all but extreme weather. Light-colored long pants that can get dirty and rain/mud boots are required. (We LOVE Bogs for kids and staff.) We also suggest long-sleeves and dress in layers as fall mornings can be cool. In case of rain--wear a hat and rain jacket! (Umbrellas are not practical.)
Snacks: We invite you to bring healthy snacks and water for your child. We will have a group snack time mid-morning, though your child is free to eat and drink any time. Unlike our By-the-Sea classes, we will not usually provide snacks in the forest.
Missed Classes: We will do our best to accommodate requests to make up classes, though we cannot guarantee this will be possible. We do not offer refunds for classes you miss, nor do we allow drop-ins. While we strive to be as accommodating as possible, we also believe continuity in participation builds an important sense of community and makes for a higher quality learning experience for our children and their families.
Weather Cancellations: We follow the Newburyport Schools. If there is a delayed opening or closure, we will cancel class and not make it up. In the unlikely event we must cancel two or more classes, we will credit the class fee towards a future program.
